Tips to Consider if you Should use Medium.com for your Company’s Content

The Website says: Medium is a place to write, read and connect.

  Medium.com has approximately 30 Million users visit each month. 

And….. Medium platform houses tons of popular content created by it’s both users and publications alike. Recently, businesses have been using this platform for their content distribution.  It is a great option to increase organic search marketing, and provide a company a great option for their digital content and community.

Medium is extremely simple to use.  There aren’t a lot of editing options, or complicated hoops to jump through to publish your articles.  Medium is a CMS without a million different plug in’s, add-ons like Wordpress.  Very little on-page visual customization benefits all users on the platform, as there is a consistent look and feel to all types of content creators.  However, this can be a con for larger sites, and they want to make their visual branding unique. They have an easy to import option from any other online source.  Just add the URL and the article gets created on Medium.

The Medium user base is very focused on getting high-quality content out the their audience, that is not watered down.  There is no advertising services, as of earlier this year, and the monthly fee to publish unlimited articles is just $5.00 per month at this writing.

Medium and SEO Impact – If you already have a website, you can also republish your content on Medium.  There is not an issue with duplicate content, as Medium creates different URL’s for tracking purposes and properly canonicalized them in date order.  Their sitemap strategy is different than most platforms.

While Medium may not be the best for every business owner, and it certainly won’t take the place of a real Business Website, it is a way to get started with your writing and content creation and quickly and grow your audience without a large budget for website development when you are strapped for cash.
